Change (for me) is coming…

A change for me is coming.

I think so anyway. No, I know so. I hate change. But change is good. And necessary. But I hate announcing it. Because then I have to do it.

This blog is going to change–it’s content anyway. It needs to change. I’m tired of it. This is something I’ve been thinking about doing for quite some time. But I haven’t because well, my blogging style is pretty easy. And I like easy. But I’m tired of it. Many of you are tired of it. And I get that. “Jesus Needs New PR” was a great idea in 2005. Heck, it’s still a good idea. But it’s not where I’m at anymore. Oh, Jesus still needs new PR–who am I kidding–Jesus needs an intervention. But that’s no longer where I am.

(No, I’m not changing my Twitter handle–at least, not yet: @MatthewPaulTurner is too long and I don’t know what other handle I’d use).

So yeah, change is coming. Not everything will change. But hopefully, going forward won’t be easy. Or predictable. And my heart will be in it. I’m proud of this blog. But change is good.

Oh, I will still have opinions. Likely I’ll have more opinions. And thankfully, my skin is getting thicker, so I’ll be less inclined to hold back. Which happens more than you might think.

I might lose readers. And that’s okay.

I have my voice again. I’m dreaming and imagining again. Hell, I’m writing again. Really writing. And that’s important. I don’t want to lose readers. I love almost every one of you! But I’m going to be me. Because that feels good. And right. And my heart fills up when I think about it.

Speaking of writing, I’ve officially signed a contract with Jericho Books for my next title. (The release date isn’t until Summer 2014). I’m researching/writing/creating now. I’m so excited about this next project. And I’m equally excited about working with the beautiful people at Jericho. I’m a big fan of Wendy & Co. And too, I’m honored and humbled to be listed among the names of authors on the Jericho roster. So many of my friends. So many of my heroes. So many of the names and faces who challenge me and make me feel not so alone.

What’s the book about? Well, right now the working title is this: God is Fat: A Short but Stout History of America’s Ever Growing Deity. It’s about America’s image of God. How we have changed God, shaped God, and formed God into our own image. That’s all I can share at the moment. Because I’m writing it. And I’m excited about it. I have much to say. So much is happening.

My weekly radio talk show starts in February! I’ll tell you more about that soon. And remind me to tell you about my children’s book.

More to come.

  • LizBR says:

In your research for your book, have you read American Jesus by Stephen Prothero? I’m going to guess that you have, but if not, you should certainly take a look!

    • MPT says:

Oh yes. Prothero’s brain and writing thrill me. Reading it again now.

      • LizBR says:

I was introduced to him in an undergraduate course on the history of attitudes about death. His book Purified By Fire has been on my shelf ever since. There aren’t very many other books that I’ve held on to from courses I took my freshman year of college! I teach at a Christian university and try to introduce his writing to my students the way my history prof did for me.
