Can’t watch the video at work, but every time I hear about some sort of gimmick that’s supposed to help teenagers “stay pure”, I have to wonder how much these folks are shooting themselves in the foot.
I mean, I waited until I got married and, while it was difficult at times, it wasn’t the most difficult thing I’ve ever done. It wasn’t that big a deal, actually. And it wasn’t doing pushups or wearing a purity ring that worked for me–it was mainly just knowing that I had plans for graduate school and a career and I didn’t want to screw them up by getting pregnant or getting an STD. (I was more of a believer in Murphy’s Law than anything else at the time.)

If anything, I think that if anyone had told my 16-year-old self to do pushups whenever I had an impure thought, it would only have reminded me of all the impure thoughts I was having!

Why do folks have to make everything so complicated?

I love behavior modification through physical exercise.

So the point for push ups for purity is for blood to rush to other parts of the body?

  • Marg says:

    “In and Outs”!
What exactly is the point they’re making here? I assume that the push-ups are a means to distract yourself from “impure” thoughts, but –unless i missed something –nobody in the video ever clearly explains the connection.

It’s an old tradition. Exercise is supposed to burn off the stress and tension that come from being aroused. Sort of like how a cold shower is supposed to shock you out of the arousal.
When I was in college you were supposed to run a alp around the field, but I guess if you don’t have a field handy …

Muscle-dude: “…we can do in and outs…”My 13-yo brain: *snort* “In and outs! Doesn’t that negate the whole purity thing?”
      My 27-yo brain: “Seriously, Sarah?”

Is this preparation for the Missionary Position (or its additive inverse)?

  • John says:

    I just… don’t… huh? Why? How?

Get that beach body while increasing your virtuousness! “All for Jesus, through Mary.” Interesting way to sell mortification of the flesh. And just in time for Fathers’ Day!

    In-n-Out’s for purity? Awesome…
