nothing says ‘good news’ like old album covers

By November 19, 2009Blog

The album’s title is awesome.
Floating heads is always a nice touch.

My parents owned this.

This lady came to my church several times. She wore that dress once, too. And you could totally see her lips move when “Ricky” talked.

A message of hope…

British Christians HATED this group I’m sure.

  • OMG, These are AWESOME!!

  • Rick says:

That’s TOTALLY John Lithgow with The Faith Tones on the right.

  • Amy Bennett says:

Man I used to have that Jim and Tammy one. In fact, I think my dad still has that record. AWESOME!

  • oh.my.word.

never mind. i have no words.

  • That was unbelievably funny. I swear MPT just google’s the internet all day for this stuff. So good.

  • Stephen says:

Good ole Mike Crain. Yet another name I knew growing up who has now been arrested for sexual molestation of minors.

  • Lauree says:

So what will be said about today’s cd covers and book covers about 20 years from now? We all fight against being products of our time.

  • Jason Boyett says:

I’m afraid, MPT, I will have to challenge you to a duel for mocking Geraldine and Ricky, who played an intrinsic role in my childhood faith. Not to mention the role they played in my childhood nightmares.

  • But Jason… did they come to your church?

    🙂

Am not sure it’s necessarily any better when you get AWAY from fundamentalism.

I’m reminded of some reference I saw somewhere to Steve Taylor’s one-sentence magazine apology for his wife’s artwork for the cover of “I Predict 1990.”

The entire article in the magazine simply said, “IT’S NOT A TAROT CARD!!”

Granted, this is the same guy who published the (fabricated?) fan letter that said, “I played ‘To Forgive’ for my pastor and he liked it. I want my money back.”

  • Elí says:

Jesus said we would suffer in this world and be hated just as he was… but he never said we should give people reasons to do that!

Wonder why they don´t want to hear us talk?

    @Fireseal

  • Jessica says:

Next time you need to photoshop your head under that wig and horned-rim glasses worn by that stunning specimen of a woman on the “Jesus Use Me” album.

    Visualize…

  • tmamone says:

    The Shaggs were awesome!

  • Mike M says:

That guy in the middle of the Faith Tones pic is Bif from “Back to the Future.”

  • And the guy on the left of the Faith Tones album pic is the Albino from “The Princess Bride”.

  • radosh says:

Lovely. But The Shaggs really don’t belong on this list.

  • The Faith Tones are obviously transexuals. Surgery back then was pretty pimitive. Good thing they have faith, they sure as hell didn’t have dates.

Falwell’s prediction of the end coming was on target… for HIM!!
Albeit, it took longer than it should have.

I wonder what the “Christian Crusaders” thought when they saw the proof of their album cover. Bet it went something like this:

    – “Hey, Franky… that photo makes you look 2 pounds slimmer.”
    – “Yeah, I know! And it make you look like your standing behind a wall instead of being a 36″ tall little person.”
    – “Groovey! Lets go with it!!”

Mike Crain came to my church when I was 11! I thought he was awesome and bought his book.

    Why no Stryper covers?

  • Christina says:

I love the leftmost chick’s hair on “The Faith Tones” cover. Niiiiiice.

  • are the shaggs a christian band? I know them through a friend who listens to outsider music… (which could be the right category for a lot of Christian music anyway…)

  • lisa samson says:

I think Geraldine came to my Christian school. And as winners of the MACSAC (does that make you feel as squeamish as me, Matthew?) basketball state championship in 1978, we traveled down to his camp on Lookout Mountain, TN (I think) to play at the nationals. He did his schtick there. It was pretty scary.
