You got me. I am guilty for sure. I definitely use all of the words you mention in this video. I don’t use them all at once usually. But I do use them.

By the way, you forgot the word “crap.”

But you are right, the Bible does talk about talking holy.

However, the Bible also talks about a church having elders. And uh, you found a way to get around that one, huh?

Viagra is for the treatment of inability to get or keep an hard-on and similar states when erection is of low quality. When you buy remedies like cialis from canada you should know about cialis online canada. It may have a lot of brands, but only one ATC Code. Erectile malfunction, defined as the persistent impossibility to maintain a satisfactory hard-on, affects an estimated 15 to 30 millions men in the America alone. Sexual soundness is an substantial part of a man’s life, no matter his age etc.

But culture is constantly redefining what is a cuss word and what is not. Not only that, but even what is and is not considered a cuss word is definited different in different regions of the country, heck even in the same city. When Paul uses a word like skubalon in Philippians 3:8, you have to perform some interpretive feats to get to rubbish as opposed to ‘crap,’ which is much more what the word really means. I think cussing can be situational, and we should remember Romans 14:14 in so doing. Paul uses the term to help clearly define all things as crap compared to knowing Christ. That being said, words that are more uniformly considered to be cuss words, like the f word, should have no place coming from a preacher’s lips.

  • No, he said it…..

    CRAP!

Yep, that’s one of my favorites. Gotta work on this myself. Thanks for the reminder!

  • Chris,

I agree with you, man. I think Ed is insane. (Not in a good way, either.)

*@#!, keep your eyes on the road!

  • rfbryant says:

A friend pointed out to me earlier in a discussion about this topic that the gold ole KJV has six instances of the phrase, “pisseth against the wall” — but then, David danced in his BVDs, too.

On the other hand, friends in Holland have no qualm about using the “s” word. To them it simply means “feces” and nothing more.

Words. Where did they come from? What do they mean? Who decides?

  • John Dobbs says:

He’s right. When I hear a man stand up to speak forth the word of God, I am not impressed one bit if he knows how to express himself as the world.

  • Yeah I am a part time volunteer youth minister, and I too say things I shouldn’t. I agree that some words can be damaging, even words we may think are harmless. He has a point, but once again it’s a case of speck in someone else’s eye, plank in yours.

  • Tam says:

“Words. Where did they come from?”

or…”where” do they come from. i can be driving and get frustrated, angry more like it, at a driver who did something retarded and proceed to call him an idiot or moron. neither are “cuss” words – but both can come from an angry place. for me, its not the word as much as it is the intent and motive behind the word. thats the real issue, for me.

  • Tam says:

and matthew – im diggin the way your lovingly glancing over at ed in the vid from your sidebar.

    its so…precious.

  • wezlo says:

    Wow.
“This sucks” is bad, but dramatically increasing your chances of getting into an accident by videoing yourself while driving is OK.

Yet another example of why I refuse to identify myself as an Evangelical™.

  • Passafist says:

Some words are Generational.. Sucks for instance is a word my parents hate but the average youth or young adult isn’t fazed by.

While I’ve noticed at lot of people my age have made “Stupid,” a swear word. Idiot, Reatard, and Moron are all former medical terms.

We have to know our audience, and the time and place to use that language, but tone and heart are also part of the issue. WORDS ARE JUST WORDS, it’s what we put behind those words that matter

  • josh canady says:

The bottom line and the question you have to ask yourself before you do or say anything is “is what I am about to say/do God honoring”. If the answer is no than its not worth saying or doing. That can be related to “cussing” or even the way we speak about one another. For instance, is the way we are portraying Ed Young on this board “God honering”…are we really speaking the truth in love. Honestly I don’t find much fault in what Ed Young said because I believe he was convicted to say it. To him this is probably a problem he is seeing in his own ministry or probably even in his own life that he felt compelled to speak on. Because we may or may not agree with his message or tactic of getting that message out makes him no worse or better than you and I. I would say again that we all really need to be careful how we speak about or confront a brother (yes blogging is a form of confrontation). I say this only because this is a huge problem in my own life. Whether it be blogging, speaking, doing, preaching etc….ask yourself “Is this God honering”…or another way of looking at it is “Does this further the kingdom?”

  • machoo says:

So he cusses in the beginning of the video to prove a point that pastors cuss in order to be “cool” or “prove a point”.

  • JMJ says:

    One Comment, one question:

    Question:
MPT: I’m not sure I understand the context of the elders comment at the end of the post. Did I miss something in the video?

    Comment:
Even though this guy seems to be a bit batty, there’s a grain of truth in what he’s saying. How often are the words we use a church-subculturally acceptable euphamism for the church-subculturally unacceptable cuss word? (e.g. friggin’/flippling etc for the f-bomb, crap etc for the s-word)
Is that a conscious or subconscious thing? Is this something we have to change? I would think it might be. Remember, perception is everything. I’ve been called out on this very thing with my use of “flipping”.

As for ‘sucks’, ‘damn’, etc. I agree that these may be generational.

  • to me this is an issue that is all around me.

It is like anything else, The Holy Spirit convicts people, I don’t, but The Holy Spirit uses me to help others be convicted. And to me, the Christians that use words that are cuss words in our culture are doing it out of arrogance. I say this, because those around me do it, and I used to do it myself. If you can use cuss words and not feel ANY shame or guilt about it, then I am pretty sure its okay, usually.

But it just comes down to my rebellious “sons and daughters of fundamentalists” generation of believers that just say and do things because other generations have told them not to, and they disagree with it.

  • supersimbo says:

  • TJ says:

My favorite is that he used all of those words at the beginning of his video to emphasize his point. ISN’T THAT EXACTLY WHAT HE SAID WE SHOULDN’T DO (caps maean I’m yelling). I think there are so many things that are more important than this. He’s becoming a Pharisee in his old age.

  • Tam says:

so my son, 12 yrs old, and i just watched this video and he says afterwards…

“mom? when that bad thing happened to me today at school and i said, ‘that sucks’…that was bad??? would it really have been better if i had said ‘that STINKS’? seems the same to me.”

  • Andy says:

Why’d you edit out my comment?
