  • Chad Estes says:

“If that’s the truth, man this is going to tick off the devil.”

    Beauty.

  • Ha! I especially like the blonde, standing waist-deep in water and half-heartedly yelling “Help me!”

  • Anonymous says:

Goodness, it combines the worst parts of a Lifetime movies with the ilk of Saturday Nights on the SciFi Channel.

  • David Lowman says:

It appears to be just as horrific with the sound turned off…

  • Momma Mango says:

    What the…
I’m trying to imagine what the moral of the story would be. Is there a message there of some sort? Am I missing something?

  • I saw the trailer the first time while on a date with my wife. I sank lower in my stadium seat wondering if I had a sign above me pointing down in red neon that said, “Here sits a Christian who works in the entertainment industry. He’s to blame.”

Indulge me to make three points.

First, the dancing should be amazing.

After the trailer, my wife leaned over and said,”Hey, Ballet Magnificat” is doing the dance in that movie.”

Ballet Magnificat is an amazingly talented troupe of dancers who epitomize the top of that art form. As Christians, we should rejoice that there is a group committed to such high quality and mastery of the craft.

Second point: I wonder what critics said in the 1970s about the early days of musical Christians?

Were their flailing records to be shunned? I dare say that Switchfoot’s* success is built on the foundation laid by Barry Maguire and The Archers.

Someday, I hope and pray, we’ll look back on Fireproof, Dog Days of Summer, and C Me Dance with a tad of nostalgia. I hope and pray we thank those filmmakers for paving the way for great motion picture art that honors God and inspires faith in its viewers.

Point number three: what are we doing?

No, C Me Dance can’t compare to the gold standard of Christian cinema The Hiding Place, but the quantity of Christian films will only foster future quality of Christian films.

If the Kendricks and the Taylors of this world can prove to their investors that the cash paid back their investment, then more filmmakers will be able to receive funding for better films.

I talk to a lot of very talented people who rail against films like C Me Dance but don’t want to spend the time and energy to (1) harness their immense creativity to create a screenplay and (2) work their tails off to find the financing and the crew to pull it off.

When I get on my soapbox about Hometown Legend, Second Chance, or other movies with so much potential, my wife painfully pinches the back of my arm and says, “What are you going to do about it?”

I pose that question to all of us. What are we going to do about it? Let’s stop whining and start working.

(*insert the act of your choice that stands up to your scrutiny)

    …I have no words.

    W. Mark Whitlock said… “I dare say that Switchfoot’s success is built on the foundation laid by Barry Maguire and The Archers.”

LOL! I bet the band members of Switchfoot have no idea who the Archers (I had a crush on Janice) or the Cosmic Cowboy crooner even are!

  • Travis says:

@Chad Estes: I am sure you are right BUT Switchfoot not knowing who they are is very different from building on the foundations they may have laid. They may have been forerunners for the bands that Switchfoot and others today were inspired by.

I hope that Mark is right and that in the future, the things that embarrass me about Christian “productions” today have paved the way for fantastic ones tomorrow.

I enjoyed Fireproof but really this….

    all I can say is……….

    HA AHA HA HA HA

Really….if this was the best I cold do I would do nothing.

Amazing; I’m stunned. The casting… How could the Director… *any* Director… find *this many* people… who can’t act?

  • Terroni says:

I think that with this one film the market may now be saturated with Christian dance thrillers.

    It looks that…powerful.

  • Kelley R. says:

    Shut. The. Front Door.

Not gonna lie – there were curse words.

It’s also pretty telling that the original YouTube post has disabled comments.

    W. Mark Whitlock said,

I dare say that Switchfoot’s* success is built on the foundation laid by Barry Maguire and The Archers.

The CM industry can start taking credit for Switchfoot’s success the day Macaulay Culkin reconciles with his family and admits they “really did deserve the credit (read: money).”

Switchfoot’s success is built on their skill as musicians and the quality of the music they produce.

  • Terroni says:

Am I the only one here who doesn’t give two shits about Switchfoot?

  • jchatraw says:

A bad movie is a bad movie, no matter who makes it. Any attempt at trying to get across any message falls flat when the message is wrapped in a poor script and low-budget production.

  • PC says:

Was this movie produced by Carman?

  • I just think it is rubbish and badly made! X.

  • shellie says:

i don’t think the budget matters as much as the acting/directing/writing. movies are supposed to tell a story. if that’s what christians would like to do, to tell a good story well, then they should hire excellent actors, christian or not. then, the christian message will be better portrayed, and this movie wouldn’t backfire so badly….sometimes i think we christians are our worst enemies.

  • Dale Best says:

Linny and I are walking through Target today and we pass a middle-aged couple looking at DVDs … the lady points to a Fireproof DVD and explains to her husband that “this movie was real big in the Christian world” … and then she explained what the movie was about.

I wanted to puke at the “cheese” of the products some Christians make.
