Great movie. Awesome cinematography. Insanely wonderful storyline.

  • Tim Gibson says:

I agree that it’s a great story, cinematography, and music, but have to disagree on the movie. Skip it and read the book instead. A lot better. And I don’t always like the book better (i.e. Bourne), but the movie was just so slow and boring. The narrative doesn’t flow as good as the book does. I’ve read the book almost 10 times and I still enjoy it.

  • Gary Durbin says:

what a movie…I really loved the music by Eddie Vedder. I’m still listening to “Rise” constantly.

  • Becky says:

I LOVED this movie. The acting was incredible. As well as the music.

  • Pete Wilson says:

I’ve read the book but haven’t seen the movie. I’ll check it out this week.

  • Dan says:

While some of you found the pace too slow, I found the pace allowed me to sink into McCandless’ mindset and perspective. Life was happening around him and he had slowed down enough to take it in. Hal Holbrook was genius and moved me deeply in his portrayal of Ron Franz – such deep, lovely characters all around.

  • Dan, I couldn’t agree more. I thought the character development was the best part of the movie… and Holbrook was brilliant.

  • McGuck says:

I tried many times to see this in the theater but couldn’t get anyone to go with me. So one day I had an oppurtunity when I was in a hotel to rent it. It was worth the wait but kicked myself for not seeing it on the big screen. Holbrook I must agree was brilliant as his character stuck out to me the most. Hirsch did a fine job as well as many others but Holbrooks character he just took it to another level. I honestly felt bad for the guy and wished that Chris could of lived to visit him again. I was deeply touched by his concern for the young guy and his desire for family. Those scenses between the two of them are the highlite of the entire movie for me.
