lessons from my first birthing class…

By April 16, 2008Blog

Jessica and I had our first birthing class last night. Our class is being held at Vanderbilt University, and it’s an “all natural” class about giving birth. Yes, we’re “one of those couples”–using a midwife, forgoing all medications unless it becomes absolutely necessary, and if it at all possible, will give birth in a tub.

Here are a few things I learned last night.

1) Birthing class was sort of hot. Yeah, hot. I won’t go into explaining all of that on my blog, but trust me, there was a lot of breathing.

2) Women once gave birth standing up. I saw pictures of women doing just that. Um, yeah, not so hot.

3) My job is a lot easier than my wife’s job, yet somehow, I am deemed “just as important.” Hot.

4) If I breathe in through my nose and out through my mouth over and over again, I am able to trick myself into thinking I am feeling no pain. Yeah, they’d be sticking that needle into my spine.

5) I can’t wait for Elias Jude’s arrival.

Viagra is for the treatment of inability to get or keep an erection and similar states when hard-on is of low quality. When you buy remedies like cialis from canada you should know about cialis online canada. It may have a lot of brands, but only one ATC Code. Erectile malfunction, defined as the persistent impossibility to maintain a satisfactory hard-on, affects an estimated 15 to 30 millions men in the America alone. Sexual soundness is an substantial part of a man’s life, no question his age etc.

Hehe – that is too funny about birthing class. My hubby and I had to cancel our birthing class because my water broke eight weeks early, and for two weeks after that, I was on bed rest in the hospital. When our second came around, we thought, “Why bother with a birthing clsas?” Congratulations to you both! :oD Can’t wait to welcome Elias Jude to the world!

Good for you and Jessica for going the “natural” route!
I felt every pain with both of my deliveries, and I wouldn’t trade them for anything (although I’m glad they were temporary … something to keep in mind during labor!). I really look forward to reading your latest book and to seeing a photo of your little Elias Jude.

    Matthew,

I read your blog all the time, but this is the first time I’ve ever posted a comment… I guess technically I’m losing my “Jesus Needs New PR” virginity… Is that even allowed for a married Christian?

Just wanted to say congrats on the upcoming baby! My wife and I also chose to go the natural way and took a 10 week natural childbirth class last summer. 20 pregnant girls. El-naturale. 10 weeks. 3 hours a week. Summer heat. Meditation. Hot. Just wait until they talk about the after-birth. Super Hot.

However, after going through it all, my wife says that she definitely will want to do it all the same way again for Rounds 2 and 3. As our birthing class teacher said, I guess I will have to continue working on perfecting the art of my role as “protector of the birth place.” (If you’d like to read about our natural childbirth delivery story, feel free to check out my blog entry from oct. 25, 2007 at jdriel.com)

In all seriousness, I think it’s a wonderful decision on your part and it’s one that both my wife and I don’t regret making one bit. (I’m fully aware that it’s really her opinion of the whole thing that counts in such matters…) I wish you the best of luck and I’ll continue to pray for you, Jessica, and Elias Jude throughout this whole process… Enjoy the journey…

On a side note: Thanks for all you do… I know it’s tough, but yours is a voice that is desperately needed in the world today…

Congrats! my wife and I (emphasis on the wife part) used natural methods for our first child. Our 2nd child, due in 2 weeks, will get the same birth experience.

My wife liked it so much and believes in natural birth so much that she’s become a Bradley birth method instructor.

Many blessings as the big day comes. And many more blessings as the real work of child raising begins. not that giving birth isn’t real work, but, oh you know what I mean!

As a labor and delivery nurse and a person who had babies without drugs, let me just offer my vote of confidence. And it is true, if you breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth (and focus) you can trick yourself into reducing the amount of pain you feel.
Remember, MPT, you are Jessica’s best asset in this whole deal. You have to be an awesome cheerleader and you have to keep telling her how great she is doing and she will believe you. It is weird how it feels and how your spouse telling you that means so much. Just be there and do everything she does or _does not_ want you to do. Get out your poms poms because you are now a cheerleader…..and that’s hot.
