The U.S. has done some horrible things in Central America and Iraq. At the U.S. funded University of the Americas the U.S. trained and provided weapons to gangs that had committed genocide and helped them coup elected governments (for example, El Salvador & Guatemala). No wonder there is such strong anti-American sentiment in this region.

It is very sad that visiting Americans have to suffer the consequences of the brutal and morally wrong foreign policy administrations of Ronald Reagan and George Bush Sr. Why hasn’t George W. Bush helped Eric? But then again, judging by Bush’s poor handling of Iraq (George Bush Sr. put Saddam in power, George W. Bush removed Saddam and replaced him with death squads).

I hope that Eric is freed soon. It’s not fair that stupid mistakes by past presidents be taken out on a guy who was trying to help.

  • Couldn’t agree more. It is sad. And what is frustrating is that many of our wrong doings never get reported so we’re left to find out the real story when something like “this” happens.

    Sad.
