Brennan Manning’s new book The Furious Longing of God hit stores in March. I have loved Brennan’s writings since I was in college. He’s one of the few writers from 90s Christian culture who always seemed to capture the humanness of being a follower of Jesus. That’s something I can relate to. And too, the way he paints the picture of God’s love for us is beautiful, passionate, and often difficult to fathom. But I want to fathom God’s love like that–with passion and fury.
Well, I’m giving away 5 copies of Brennan’s new book.
Here’s the publisher’s description: Imagine a stormy day at sea, your ship yielding to a relentless wind, pummeled by crashing waves, subject to the awesome force of nature. A force that is both fierce and majestic. A power that is nothing short of furious.
Such is God’s intense, consuming love for His children. It’s a love that knows no limits, and no boundaries. A love that will go to any lengths, and take any risks, to pursue us.
Renowned author and ragamuffin Brennan Manning presents a love story for the brokenhearted. For those who are burdened by heavy religion. For those who feel they can never measure up. It is a provocative and poignant look at the radical, no-holds-barred love of our Heavenly Father. It is a message that will forever change how you view God.
IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO WIN 1 OF 5 COPIES OF “THE FURIOUS LONGING OF GOD,” LEAVE A COMMENT!

Never read Brennan Manning but I am always up for a new book! My twitter is @macadamfamily
dude, I love Brennan! The Ragamuffin Gospel is one of the best books I have ever read.
Well count me as the second who hasn’t read Manning. I’ve quoted him in sermons before, so technically I’ve read sentences. I’m @davisrael.
Never read anything by him, but would love to. My twitter is @jrsmith1154
OHH he is amazing!! I want one too!
jenae (at) imijfoto.com
Brennan Manning has been an influential guide for this journey of faith I’m on. Abba’s Child was pivotal in my life, and Ragamuffin… well, it’s a classic.
i’d love a copy- looking for good reads constantly. have read and enjoyed some of brennan’s stuff in the past. twitter @pberrong.
I’d love to get a copy!
Hook a brother up!! (Since I never got my two tickets to the movie at Belcourt.) 🙁
His message of grace is timeless. I’ve gained a lot from his life and his writings.
The first book I read of his was, Abba’s Child. A friend in our home group, a relatively new Christian, handed it to me and said, “Pastor, I think you need to read this book.”
She was sooooo right!
I love Brennan Manning. Just retweeted to my hordes of loyal follower. Sadly, not a typo. 🙂
Me! Never read him, but I’m always looking for good writing (instead of just good ideas).
WHEW! i leave comment now. tank you very much! haha. im lame!
i love brennan. pick me! pick me!
Would love a copy… desteele {at} gmail {dot} com
*in his best Napoleon voice* Heck YES I would like a copy! Jeeesh!
I mean, Yes, a copy would be lovely. Thanks, ever so.
Another thing I love about the Twitter and blog: being introduced to authors I’ve never heard of. Would love to read Brennan Manning’s work! Thanks for sharing! @Sherri_T4Tulsa
I would love to add another one of his books to my growing collection. Thank you for the opportunity to win one…
Oh my goodness I love Brennan Manning. If I don’t win, I”ll still go buy as soon as it hits shelves!
I love me some Manning. Ragamuffin Gospel is one of the reasons i am a follower of Jesus today.
So yes, i would LOVE a copy
I’d love a copy. I almost didn’t RT this because it would decrease my chances of winning. (but I did any way) This whole “prefer your brother” thing can be annoying sometimes. 😉
Never read any of his work, but always open to a new book @KevinCruise
I haven’t read Brennan Manning either, but I would be very interested. My twitter id is pennyhowell.
i’d love a copy! count me in!
I loved the ragamuffin gospel by Manning. Also, listened to your talk @ Origins Talk this morning and enjoyed it greatly, especially the Q&A session. K.Sloan aka Sloaner24 on twitter.
Would love a copy of this book. The description sounds very much like where I am at right now. Only read part of a Manning book before but this one sounds like a must read!
It’s such a great title, yes?
brenann manning is a great communicator…really speaking about spiritual things in the way they really are. for real folks…weak, broken, confused…yet, lovers of god. thanks for bringing attention to this book. i’d love a copy. staceyn

Hey Matthew! I’d love to have that book to give to my Dale!
Brennan Manning is one of the top 2 most influential writers that I have read. Ragamuffin Gospel helped me remember that I am loved and there is nothing I can do about it.
I would really like a copy of his new book!
Jay Bakker recommended it as a good read. I’ll take an extra copy of you have any left 🙂 I promise to pass it on when I am done…seems only fair!!
soungs wonderful, something that would really speak to my soul right now
Did he say 1 of 5 or 1 of 5000??? Oh well, we tried! Sounds like a great book. Now where did I put my borders card?
I had the good fortune to meet Brennan a few years ago at a YS Convention – he led a two day “retreat.” It was wonderful.
yea.. he’s the best. i’ve read Ragamuffin Gospel and it’s one of my favorites. I’m excited b/c I didn’t know he had a new book out!
Linnae Hoppe
I remember him talking about this book like two years ago. Glad to see it’s finally out.
does hanging out with you the other night bump someone up in the queue for getting a book?
just checking…. anyways, a year after I left my old church in CA they brought him in to speak to the leadership. i missed out.
as one whose cheese often slides off his cracker, I would love to read Brennan’s new book!
I love Brennen Manning’s writing. The Ragamuffin Gospel is one of my favorite books.
Would love to get a free copy of this.
I was a late-comer to Brennan Manning but my life was changed by The Ragamuffin Gospel. And I don’t say that lightly. Can’t wait to read this one regardless.
Wow! What a great give-a-way! I can’t wait to read it either! 🙂
Love the look of this book and would love to win and read it too. 🙂 Another great Christian resource.
One of my really good friends wrote the afterward, I’ve been wanting to read this! Thanks for the chance to win a copy.
‘longin’ to read this book….
I’ll jump on the comment wagon. Thanks Chad for alerting us to this. Thanks Matthew for giving them away!
I really enjoyed Ragamuffin Gospel, and all the quotes in John Eldridge’s books.
The title is so unique and facinating…can’t wait to read it for myself…I’m sure that it will be one to pass along….
i would love to read this!
I would love this!! 😉
Always looking to increase my knowledge and I promise to pass on the book to someone else when I am done reading…perhaps we can keep passing it?
I would provide a loving home to copy of of Manning’s latest–truly I would! The thing is if it is as powerful as Ragamuffin Gospel this is going to cost me in the end. I will have to buy many, many copies to gift to others, too!
Terri
Brennan Manning is great and I especially have treasured hearing him in person. I would love to read this new title! Thanks for the giveaway!
I’d love a copy! I bought one for a friend based on our enjoyment of Ragamuffin Gospel. He said it was great, but I haven’t purchased it yet!
I would love a copy!
How about a sympathy vote – surgery this week. Recuperating with a book sounds good.~
I would love to win!! Pick me!
I would love this book, I think I need this book! Thanks so much for the offer!
It sounds like a wonderful book! Thanks for the chance!
sweet!
I’m only heard snippets of his stuff, but it seems very intriguing. Count me in.
Sounds fabulous. I’d love to win a copy. Thanks for the op.
the publisher’s comment created a hunger to read more as we have been in such a storm this past year. Thanks for the opportunity
Sounds like a great book …
Put me in!
The Ragamuffin Gospel was one of the first books I bought for my husband, WAY back in college! Would love to read Brennan Manning’s latest.
Here’s entry #64. My love affair with Brennen goes back to the old (pre-slick paper) Wittenburg Door of the 80s. When I planted a church (The Seattle Vineyard) in 1987, I must have given away a case or two of “Lion and Lamb: The Relentless Tenderness of Jesus” to congregants, new Christians, seekers, anyone who would take one. It and the Bible were required reading. I’m ed@cfcoaching.org -e.
The description sounds great. Please put me in, too. Thanks!
The Ragamuffin Gospel was seriously one of the first books I remember changing my perspective on faith and grace. Love it.
So of course I must enter. Thanks for posting about it… win or buy, I’m adding this to my “to read” list! 🙂
Sounds like he’s an excellent writer, I would quite enjoy having a copy of his book.
I would love to get a copy.
Sounds like a wonderful book!
Sign me up, man.
He’s a popular writer – one I’ve never read, and honestly wasn’t especially drawn to – but I’m willing to give him a try.
I have loved Brennan ever since I read The Ragamuffin Gospel. I’m digging The Signature of Jesus right now. He is blessed to be able to convey the weight of mercy and grace along with the freedom that comes with it.
cd
I love Brennan Manning…Rich Mullins turned me on to him…
Like countless others, Mannings Ragamuffin Gospel revolutionized my ideas of grace and completely rocked my world. I’m getting a copy whether I get one here or not.
i have to say that i’m ashamed that i missed the fact that he had a new book out. but i have always loved reading his stuff. i’m crossing my fingers!!
thanks to Brennan Manning, I have lain my head on an “empty” chair…
@dvdinterrobang
The fact that the captcha at the end of this comment is guitors, instead of guitars makes the English teacher in me cringe!
Brennan Manning is awesome! I would LOVE to win one of these copies! Thanks!!
Love Brennan Manning. Thanks for running the contest!
My husband really likes Brennan Manning. He wrote a biography of Rich Mullins that was what hooked Joel in.
I’m in!
Would love to win a copy of the book
After growing up in a small South Texas church with a “beware of a man that comes to you with a bible and a book” mentality, I’m ashamed, yet relieved to say that I am just now beginning to read Christian based literature…(as in, not just the Bible). I’m embarking on a monumental, life-long spiritual journey, and I’m totally on the lookout for GREAT works of literature on the subject to help along the way. I’d say the publisher’s description depicts exactly where I’m at in life. It’s been a ride, but I have a feeling that I’m just getting started! God Bless.
Would love to win a copy. Will probably buy one if I don’t but don’t let that stop you from picking me to win!!!
I’d love to have a copy. thx.
@wvpv
hey, sounds like a good book. It’d be cool to win a copy.
Please count me in for the draw
cthoma11 _at_ gmail.com
ooo la la the blurb has me hooked already! xxx.
Brennan Manning’s writing has literally changed my life. I was divorced for 6 years and while reading Manning’s “Abba’s Child” I finally realized that at my core I did not believe the Gospel that God loved me just as I was. “The Ragamuffin Gospel” and “The Signature of Jesus” are also so very good.
Brennan Manning spoke at my Church 2 years ago and the quote of the conference was when he said
“Today, I will not sh*t on myself.”
As one who grew up having to appear to have it all together, Brennan Manning’s authenticity and rawness had me hooked from the beginning.

I forgot to add the best part! After reading “Abba’s Child”, I turned my life around and as a result, my ex-wife and I are now remarried! Praise God!
You know what will also change your view of God’s love for us, have a baby. You can finally see a glimps of his type of unconditional and no holds bar love.
Wow. That book sounds amazing. I am about to dive into reading “Churched” — my reading list just keeps getting longer and longer, I love it!
Wow….that sounds like me right now! I just dropped out of seminary last week….decided I needed to spend more time learning about what it means to be loved by God and less time learning how to give a literary defense of the referential history of the Old Testament. Sounds like this book might have a few good thoughts for me!
I would love to read this book! It looks wonderful!
Ragamuffin Gospel is one of my favorite books. I can’t wait to read this one.
Manning is a great writer – sign me up for the contest!
What a great thing to do!
Ragamuffin Gospel is the next book on my list of books to buy. I havent read any Brennan Manning yet, but have heard him on the radio. I think about it a lot.We would definitely would enjoy the book! Thanks!
I’ve heard incredible things about Manning’s writing, but have never read it before. So why not throw my hat into the basket and try to get a free copy?
I’ve not read him yet, but heard good things. Sign me up! 🙂
Looks interesting! Count me in!
I would love to read this book.
I’m always up for winning something. And this looks like a good book to win.
The Ragamuffin Gospel by Brennanis one of my favorite books, it took me to a place that I had never been to through Church as usual. A place of knowing to a deeper extent the love of God on unworthy people.
Would love to read this one, looks great.
Hook me up man!!! Sounds like a great read!
I am always looking for new authors to be inspired by.
Sorry, forgot contact info.

Well, here I am another one that has never read any of his stuff, but it sounds intriguing. My twitter is @wonderingfaith
This book sounds marvelous. Very excited to get a copy, this way or another.
Your Funamentalist Bapist background sounds similar to my Conservative Mennonite Childhood. I was almost 50 when I figured out that God did really love me and that he wasn’t mad at me. It’s been an awesome and freeing journey!
I’d love to win it.
Just last night our small group identified a corporate struggle in feeling bad about what we’ve done, but also knowing GOD has a purpose and way out. This book may be a good study for us to use!
oh please please PRETTY PRETTY PLEASE!!! i am a HUGE brennan manning fan!!! ok, i’m done groveling (for now!) thanks for giving away the books:)
blessings,
:)stacy

Brennan Manning spoke in chapel once when I was in college. After four years of 4 services a week, there is little that has stayed with me.
His talk (about “living in the dash”) is STILL something I think about, 3 years later.
I’d love to win, but if I don’t I think I need to go buy this book..
comment.
ragamuffin gospel was fantastic. i’ve lent it out so many times i don’t even think i have it anymore! classic.
Sweet. Manning was really before his time. His writings inspired the church that I attended in college in Chicago.
Hope I win one….
I’d love to win this book!
winning books is cool.
sounds like an interesting book. i’d love to win a copy.
would love one!
i want one!
Working my way through Ragamuffin Gospel right now. Looking forward to reading his new book, too.
i would love to win one of the copies but I will probably buy it if not.
I’m guessing you meant to say it comes out in May? not March?
Also, I loved your Jai Ho comment about Anoop on twitter 🙂
My husband loves Brennan Manning – if I won, it’d be a surprise gift! 🙂
Sounds very intriguing. I doubt I will win but I will have to look into this book sometime soon still.
comment, comment, comment!
Love your tweets man…love your tweets.
The Ragamuffin Gospel is probably the most important book I read when I was in college. Thanks for letting me know his new book actually exists.
The Ragamuffin Gospel was one of the books that saved me from giving up on my faith after growing up in a pretty odd type of fundamentalism.
@warwraith on Twitter.
Thanks – hope I win!
@adamwc on Twitter.
Love Brennan’s writing. Would love to win this.
Would love to have this book!
@shanekba on twitter
my comment disappeared, and not gonna lie, me want book!
Long time reader, but barely comment. The title of this book grips me though. I wanna win!
I was just thinking this morning that this book would be a great gift for a young friend of mine. Winning a free copy for him would be even better.
I would like a book because I’m cool and you’re cool. So we’re both cool dudes who like books. 🙂
i would LOVE to get a copy, sir!!!
I too have been a big fan of Brennan Manning since college. His stuff never fails to touch my heart. I’m excited about this new book!
This is great, I didn’t know he’d be writing any more books. Loved Ragamuffin and The Signature of Jesus!
oh, and my twitter is @kylejnolan
It would be disingenuous to leave a comment and NOT admit I want the free book…but I’d also like to know, Matt, what your favorite books by Manning are.
His influence on me has mainly been in knowing that no matter how screwed up I am, if I’m in Christ God still loves me.
I’ve read thru Ragamuffin Gospel, and have started Abba’s Child (recommended to me by an elder at church). And, of course, Manning has influenced me through the life and ministry of Rich Mullins.
manning’s a great speaker, too. here’s hoping for his book.
I have been waiting on this book a while. Thanks for being generous.
Brennan Manning mentored Rich Mullins, whose music today is still a breath of fresh air in an over-churched under-jesus culture.
I had the privilege to hear him speak and share in a smaller group setting at the LIFE 2006 conference in Orlando Florida. “The Ragamuffin Gospel” changed my life.
Thanks for giving away the books, it will have a huge impact.
big fan of Manning; Thanks for the chance to get one of his books.
It looks really really cool! I would like plz!
Just getting started on the Brennan Manning world. Have heard his books change lives (and make people cry…good way, of course). Would love a copy. Love the Tweeting and blogging you do…not just sucking up, I promise.
Will comment for book!
Wendy
I am leaving a comment….

This book sounds like a must-read!
Cool. I like this. I just finished Churched. Now I’m in the middle of Angry Conversations with God. This is all new and refreshing to me.
Hook me up!
Jvo turned me onto your blog, also a twitter follower (@schlomoson). I appreciate your view.
I’m also one who’s not read Manning, but admire what I’ve learned about him. If somehow I am picked I would pass it on to several others and look for the audiobook for myself. I drive all day.
take care!
It’d be pretty ironic if, of all possible giveaways, I won a Brennan Manning book.
Especially this one.
Heck, I’ll toss my hat in, though.
Ironic or not 1/155 aren’t high odds anyway. (LOL)
hey man,
i stick it out through your American idol commentary on twitter, you know why? cause your a cool guy.
your a great guy.
the ragamuffin gospel probably changed my life, i love it, i recommend it to any and everyone
may i please i have this book?!@?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
I want a copy! tomschmidt_12@hotmail.com
I don’t know why I would be anxious to read another of his books because they always kick me in the butt and knock me off of my pedestal. Sure, I’d love to read it.
I know that being deserving doesn’t have anything to do with winning the book, but I do think I deserve it if only because I seem to be the first person anal enough to point out that you said you want to love God “with passion and FURRY”.
Was I really the only person that had an incredibly bizarre image force its way into their brain when they read that?
chrism6484 at gmail dot com
I am an avid reader. Sounds interesting. Thanks for sharing!
Count me in. I’m feeling furry tonight.
I’m in.
By the description of the book I know I can relate to this book. I know a few things about being brokenhearted and going to any lengths to find my way back to God! I would love to read this book! laurelh20@gmail.com
I can’t wait! Manning’s “A Ragamuffin Gospel” is a must for any “thinking” Christian’s library…
Since I’m behind in reading my favorite blogs, I missed out on this one, and this book is definitely one for me.
It’s on the reading list! Thanks.
this is the second time today someone is recommending the book – must be a God thing. Love Brennan Manning!
Linda
linda.goodman@att.net
i didn’t know he had a new book! it’s going to be a must-read no matter how fate rolls the free-book dice!
