  • “Sabbeth” and “neighbors” instead of “neighbor’s” Correct?

  • OK, I see “Sabbeth” but don’t spot the other one.

  • Yep, I saw Sabbeth but thought my eyes were just tricking me with the u/v thing.
I saw a gas station sign this morning that said “parchase 5$ inside, gat 5¢ off per gallon.” I shouldn’t talk, though. My own church had “Rememer to Vote” on its sign a couple weeks ago.

Well, at least it’s not carved in stone!

  • Bob Chapman says:

Is there some irony in how some have turned the Decalogue into a graven image?

  • M. Parks says:

Without bothering to read for misspelled words or punctuation errors, I’d say the problem is that they’ve placed religious symbols on government property…

  • Paul says:

@Bob – Everyone keeps truncating the “graven images” statement until its broader than it is. Exodus 20:4-6 says “You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments.”

    • Bob Chapman says:

The Decalogue and the Summary of the Law is important. They are the foundation of Christian ethics. As such, they should be read, marked, learned, and inwardly digested. However, that isn’t what they have done here by creating this monument.
The point is that they have created a graven image of the Decalogue, and they want all of us to bow down to it. If they were interested in a monument to the foundation of civil law, this monument would at least allude to more than the Decalogue. There should at least be mentions of the Code of Hammurabi, Roman Civil Law, and English Common Law.

No. They have created a graven image and want everyone to bow down to it.
