Viagra is for the treatment of inability to get or keep an erection and similar states when erection is of low quality. When you buy remedies like cialis from canada you should know about cialis online canada. It may have a lot of brands, but only one ATC Code. Erectile malfunction, defined as the persistent impossibility to maintain a satisfactory erection, affects an estimated 15 to 30 millions men in the America alone. Sexual soundness is an substantial part of a man’s life, no matter his age etc.
My perception is that it points towards fundamentalist Christians. I have seen the term used derisively for those of us who believe the bible to be factual, not fiction. I don’t see it as Chick Fil A being hateful, but rather including themselves in the “fruitcake” group. Just my take on it.
*hangs head in shame*
hoax?
It’s legit enough: http://www.mailboxmarketinginc.com/images/sscoupons/17373-ChickfilA_Chamblee.jpeg
But whether it was intentional or not who knows. I mean we are talking Chamblee, Georgia here.
No. Not a hoax.
In the South, there is a long running expression that a crazy person is “as nutty as a fruitcake.” In other words, they have no common sense. The term “fruitcake” is a widely used, shorthand way of saying the same thing. It has nothing to do with sexuality. That’s why.
Alan, one of the Southern connotations of the word “fruitcake” is indeed gay man or homosexual. Not every use means that, but it is used with context all the time.
Matthew. I am aware. Lived in the South all my life. I just find it the less likely meaning, all things considered. But maybe you or a couple of your other commenting followers know something I don’t. They seem quite certain that I am wrong.
Right on, Alan.
So we’re going with, “dumb Southerner doesn’t know better”??Yeah, I didn’t think so.
…because they are fundemmentalists who see the world as “us vs them” without realizing that there are Christians who are attracted sexually to the same sex. They do not care about families who are dealing with such issues hearts bleed. They do not care about the “fruit cakes” who are on the front lines protecting their freedom of speech. They do not care about about how their hateful game of exclusion hurts. They are adult bullies.
You think fundamentalists have any corner on the Us-vs-them mentality? I see it in massive amounts among liberals, conservatives, atheists, believers, Catholics, Protestants, evangelicals, Republicans, Democrats, Tea Partiers, environmentalists, and, yes, fundies. So I’m not sure why you focus on just fundies in your comment.
Please Alan. Really? I respectfully ask you…did you go and support them?
Based on the (lack of) design… I’m going to assume this was done on a very local level by a (clueless) manager… there’s no way corporate developed the slogan or the design.
I think it’s pretty clear that this was a local deal.
I really have to play Devil’s advocate here. I have to agree with Alan here. Perhaps it was used around Christmas time when actual fruitcakes abound and I’ve heard the term “fruitcake” refer to a crazy person a whole heck of a lot more than a gay person. I don’t know, but until I hear about some context I’m going to withhold condemnation.
Maybe I’m just a bad bad gay, but the first thing I did when I saw that was laugh. Honestly, if I got all riled up about every little thing that was offensive to gay people in this country, I’d spend my entire life bitter and sad. But yes, I’ve been boycotting Chick-fil-A–and I miss it every day! LOL
Christians may be attracted to a lot of things, but that doesn`t mean they are right, and yes I did go and support their stand on Moral issues and I would go again.
I see it as unfortunate that no one caught it but honestly, it can also be taken as a Christmas reference that their trays are so good only fruitcakes (a Christmas treat) wouldn’t like it. Also, I have heard gay and lesbians referred to as “fruits” but never “fruitcakes”. Fruitcakes (other than the nasty dessert) has always been the “nuttier than a…” phrase not referring to sexuality but to being eccentric or “crazy”.
I grew up in Southern California but my family roots are in the south. The fact that we are bothered by this almost feel like looking for the bogeyman behind around every corner. It reminds me of the fundamentalist churches that read crazy meaning into everything they don’t agree with. Let’s be careful not to jump to conclusions in the same manner just because it happens to be on the other side.
Hope- totally agree with you! and Carole, I also went and supported chick filet! not because I hate the gays but I believe the Bible is very clear that marrage is between a man and a woman. If that make me narrow minded- then so be it!
I was born & grew up in Chamblee, Ga. It’s in the south, but not like the south. It’s called the “melting pot,” made up mostly of Hispanic & Asian cultures, also with a large African American population. So I’m pretty sure they’re not a bunch of “dumb southerners” making fun of homosexuals.
Admittedly, I can see both sides here, but Brad S has it right. We don’t know the context. There are advertisements for 2013 calendars in November, so this can’t have been very long ago. With what just happened at Chick-Fil-A, I’d say it was, from a business and marketing standpoint, a dumb idea to reference any form of the term “fruit” in any context other than describing a product. If this is real, it’s begging to be put up on Yahoo! news.
I believe Chick-Fil-A is a franchise, so there are individual store operators who probably make local ad decisions like this, I wouldn’t be surprised if the larger corporate entity would have put the pause on this.
Anyway, it’s all about the context. If it’s even a veiled reference to gays, Chick-Fil-A (who would still be responsible for what their operators put out) is dumber than a sack of bricks. If it isn’t, they and the manager might have known better with the inclusion of the term “fruit.”
I’m new to the South from Oregon and have never heard the word “fruitcake” as slang for homosexual. Totally get it if it’s local, but I can genuinely say that I read the ad three to four times and had to read through the commentary here to understand why folks were thrown for a loop. Southern colloquialism, to be sure.
The original “why” question just seems quite odd to me. Why would one ask “why?” about this, as if the reason forthe question was something obvious?
This could have very easily been Photoshopped. Keep in mind that it is a possibility.
It’s been fact-checked. Sorry. But it’s very real.
A friend of mine had his office luncheon catered by Chik-Fil-A and he said that, ironically enough, the fruit was the best part of the meal.
