I know what you’re thinking; seeing me… you know, live in person… is probably not something most of you dream about or think about more than twice a day. But that doesn’t mean it can’t happen or shouldn’t happen… you know, eventually. If you want it to happen, that is. I’m not an audience stalker, I promise.
Okay, here’s what I’m getting at: if there’s interest from certain people (like you) from various areas of the world (as in Seattle, Washington. Or Grand Rapids, Michigan. Or Paris France!) to have me come and talk in front of churches or colleges or conferences or Home Depots, the current plan is to tour this spring and summer in support of the new book Hear No Evil
Exciting stuff, huh?
I’m excited about touring this new stories. The response from those who have read Hear No Evil has been pretty amazing–overwhelming, even. So perhaps there will be interest from college, churches, conferences, etc, to have me in to speak, do a reading, share my story, etc…
So, again, I ask for your help! I know; I’m such a needy guy. It’s sad, huh? 🙂

I realize I’m “just a writer/blogger” as opposed to being “just a writer/blogger/PASTOR,” but I assure you that I’m pretty good in front of people. And while chances are, the stories I share from stage won’t make people feel overwhelmed with guilt & anxiety, most people do enjoy what I do live. Well, there was this one audience in North Carolina that didn’t like a Dick Cheney joke that I told back in 2007. But don’t worry; I retired that story in 2008!
And this might surprise you, but I clean up pretty well. Ask my wife. I don’t wear suits and ties, and all of the pants I wear are made for the male body, but I shower and wear clothes that look like they come from Gap.
And in case you’re wondering, I refrain from talking about politics or showing Jesus pictures or cursing. Well, okay, I confess: I did say the word “ass” once at a conference for creative pastors. It was in reference to Joshua Harris. No, I didn’t call him names, I just told a story about a couple dating/break-up experiences that I had and how often I wanted to “kick Joshua Harris’s ass” a few times. (I promise not to tell that story… unless you want me to.)

People ask me all the time: What’s your goal when you talk? And that’s such a weird question for me, because I honestly don’t walk into a speaking opportunity with a “goal.” My only hope is that God will use the stories and thoughts I share, to help people laugh, relate, and perhaps find a little hope for their own story…
I don’t have four points. I don’t have a cool powerpoint display. Just stories.
