also…another video explains that Christian was raised by these people, and when he grew up, they released him back into the wild, which was a risk. Amazingly, Christian not only was accepted, but was raised as the leader of his pack!
The people took another risk by going to see Christian. They were informed that the lion would not recognize them and would try to attack.
Knowing all that made the footage all the more special, where I felt this video in particualr was a little more vague.
Did you know there’s a whole documentary? It’s hard to get, but I’ve been looking for it for my son. They actually had it on the Today show, but just showed one of the YouTube versions. I wish someone would do a “where are they now” type of thing…
I just think you can’t deny the power of love and kindness and respect. People get so busy we forget the idea of it being that simple… what life is all about sometimes, but there’s no denying it when you watch something like this.
This reminds me of the guy (can’t remember his name) who lived with bears in Alaska. He was their “friend” and they supposedly respected him, etc. He has all sorts of video footage of himself interacting with them. One night they turned on him and killed him and his girlfriend. I don’t think animals can ever be trusted…look at Siegfried and Roy! It’s a cool video, but those guys are tempting fate.
I saw this on Today this morning and cried also. Anyone who loves animals I think would cry. Christian OBVIOSLY remembers them and when he jumped on them you can see him rubbing his neck on them like a little boy who just saw his daddy after fighting in a war.
I’m touched by the seemingly loving lion-human bond, too. But, frankly, the whole time I was watching the clip I kept thinking that the human adage “Don’t play with your food!” must not be taught to the little furballs.
Though I’m definitely moved on an emotional level, I think that on an intellectual level I agree with the comment of amy p.
I think this video showed a foretaste of heaven… where man and animal coexist as God originally intended. Without fear, intimidation or power struggle. It was a very moving clip.
Too funny how quickly things spread via the internet .. someone on one of my “mommy message boards” just posted the link today!! This one shows a longer version telling the background and of course, was done w/ a ‘teary’ Whitney Houston song playing! LOL
GOSH.. it reaffirms my thoughts that animals do have feelings an dit takes a person who is open to that bond- to really make a connection with another animal. Animals- wild or domestic know when a person loves them. Yet- this lion is still a wild animal.
I have to say, when I originally saw one of these videos, I cried a little….I was really touched by the bond that the lion shared with those people

God is sooooooooo cool! I stink at titles, though, so don’t ask me.

I would entitle it “True love never forgets.”

I think it’s pretty neat that he recognized them.
I still tear up every time I see this. Here’s some background on the story.. http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/25797678/?GT1=43001
Cool! I just posted this on my blog this week too! I love this video! I can’t think of a catchy title either, lol…
I love this story!
Really? Everyone seems to think this is great. It kind of freaks me out.
