I’ll read the blog, but my initial reaction is yes and no. How are we looking at relevance? What does that mean? If relevance means that we become so much like the culture that we are the culture, then yes, it’s vain and horrible.
But if, like Paul’s talk at Mars Hill, relevance is being able to quote the culture’s poets and discuss things in terminology that the culture understands, then it’s quite a necessary thing indeed.
In other words, I know some fundamentalist Bible-believing churches—their term, not mine—that could use a little relevance. I also know some Protestant mega-churches that could use a lot less.
