Does this Billboard offend you?

jesus1

It probably doesn’t offend you. However, it’s offending old people in Lubbock, Texas. That’s partly because the ad showcases Jesus laced with tattoos, but it also might be because there’s nearly sixty of these enormous ads placed all over their city.

You can learn more about the Jesus Tattoo campaign here.

Or watch the Jesus Tattoo video below.

His beard offends me more than his tattoos.

  • I liked it quite well. They probably didn’t need the last part with the speaking as the visual was pretty powerful.

Doesn’t offend me at all. Aside from the obviously low production values (fake beard, “shiny” fake tattoos), I liked the message and imagery. Also, I stopped it as soon as they started “preaching” at the end. Why do we always feel like we need to preach to people? Are we afraid the image won’t stand on it’s own?

  • I think this is beautiful. Nothing to be offended by except for maybe his wig.

  • gave me chills. the imagery is so powerful. i agree with the others…could have done without the message at the end and found a different context to offer it…imho.

The offensive part is how the article builds up one generation for getting it while indirectly tearing another one down…creating some generationally driven spiritual divide. Seems like we are called to not be divisive, and while the campaign and message is fantastic, the billboard itself has no context which almost always leads to others being offended.

Jesus was offensive, no doubt, but not for the sake of being offensive.

  • A classic white skinned, long haired, hipster bearded, american-christian Jesus. Oh, and a dash of association with sin to go with tattoo art culture.

Great visual….until you get to the wig & beard. Really people, you couldn’t find one guy with some real facial hair?
