to whom it may concern… (and uh, it concerns you!)

This post is a thank you post.

Every time a book’s release date comes around, there’s a thread of anxiety that sinks into my head and heart, a bit of fear (perhaps insecurity) that I know is ridiculous and pointless, but it happens nonetheless.

Now, don’t get the wrong idea; it’s not like I sit in the corner and cry and wait for the Amazon stars to come pouring in. Okay, I admit; I look at them. BUT I DON’T SIT IN A CORNER AND CRY. I can’t reach the “refresh” button from the corner. 🙂

It’s a bit scary sharing with people something you’ve spent a great deal of time working on. That’s true for anybody who “creates” for a living. Now, I don’t care how many authors and artists who say that every new “work” is like a newborn baby that their presenting to the world, my books are not my babies. Not even close. I’m convinced that the first person to use that analogy was an idiot. But the words I write are certainly important to me and I want people to like them or enjoy them. So, the opinions of readers–the good opinions and the bad–mean something.

All of that is to say that the past couple days have been pretty amazing, affirming even. And I want to say thank you. I’ve received so many wonderful comments and reviews and emails. And a large majority of them have been very encouraging. Sure, some people who have read Hear No Evil, don’t get it… And that’s fine. Quite honestly, I’m not sure it would be a good thing if I wrote a book that everybody “raved” about. I think good books and good music and good art should spark various opinions and create some debate.

So anyway, thank you. Your willingness to invest a small part of your day or week or month reading one of my books or my blog means a lot. And I want you to know that I don’t take it for granted.

Please forgive me for letting this post become so mushy, but I want to make sure you realize that you’re appreciated.
