noise

By June 8, 2008Blog

This morning Pete continued his sermon series about “being in sync” with God. His focus was noise and hurry.

Lately I’ve realized how addicted to “noise” I am. I love noise! Oh, I LOVE it. Here’s why…

  • Noise drowns out the silence around me (I’m a writer and I spend a lot of time alone.)
  • Noise distracts me (TV, music, blogs, DVDs, etc)
  • Noise makes me feel connected to my friends, my family, my culture, etc. (cell phones, facebook, text messaging)
  • Noise makes me feel “in the know” or “cool” (DrudgeReport.com, PerezHilton.com,)
  • Noise helps me forget I’m lonely sometimes. (So I email, make phone calls, or instant message)
  • Noise keeps me from dealing with my own issues or aids in allowing those issues to control me or overwhelm me.
  • Noise keeps me from hearing God
  • Noise defines my identity in many ways…

Then there’s the noise I create! Ugh. That makes me sick to my stomach to think about. I’m addicted to noise, hearing it, needing it, creating it… and it’s making it hard for me to connect with Jesus.

Anybody else have a noise a addiction?

Viagra is for the treatment of inability to get or keep an erection and similar states when erection is of low quality. When you buy remedies like cialis from canada you should know about cialis online canada. It may have a lot of brands, but only one ATC Code. Erectile disfunction, defined as the persistent impossibility to maintain a satisfactory hard-on, affects an estimated 15 to 30 millions men in the America alone. Sexual health is an substantial part of a man’s life, no question his age etc.

There is a really terrific Nooma video on this subject called uh, what else? Noise.

It is really, really uncomfortable to watch with a group, so make sure you make it a very large group so you can enjoy them all squirming. The Nooma hotline used to get calls because of what happens just a few minutes into the DVD. It really made me think about the noise in my life.

Except for the part about being a writer (unless blogging counts), that desribe me scarily well. Thanks for making me stop and listen for a moment.

“I Was Told There’d Be Cake” was probably one of my favorite more recent books. 🙂

I do love noise…I need it in order to write actually. I was also afraid demons were in my house as a child–so I needed noise to drown them out…but that’s a different story entirely.
