I did not intend to sponsor another child, but after reading the Sri Lanka blogs and scrolling through many beautiful faces, the picture of a very mischievous 8-year old showed up. I prayed for his being sponsored for several days and checked to see if I could find his picture, hoping I wouldn’t because that would mean he had been sponsored. This little guy’s profile read that he was in unsatisfactory health and was not in school. After a phone call to WV, I was told that he was now in a special education class. The next time I saw this child’s picture, I knew that I was meant to sponsor him. I don’t know what his current situation is at this point, but I’m looking forward to being able to help him and his grandmother any way I can. Thanks for the “pictures in words” and showing us the great work WV does! Blessings!

Beautiful photos and words. Thanks for the reminder — right after my son was born, I resolved to sponsor a child with the same birthday as him, but they didn’t have any newborns available to sponsor at that time. Now that he’s two though… many, many children. Which makes me sad, but excited for him to grow up learning about and writing to this little boy in another country who has so much & so little in common with him.

  • Hey there,
Thanks for posting all this stuff. It’s nice to hear that you’ve had a very positive experience with World Vision. I’ve been sponsoring a child through Compassion for years now and I’ve decided that we need to part ways. I’m going to keep sponsoring my child but after he leaves the program, that’s the end.

Do you know the differences in Compassion and World Vision? I like sponsoring a child. I’d just like to use a new organization to do so.

    Thanks!

  • This is a fabulous post, Matthew. Your pictures are stunning and the story they tell? Wow. Just that. We already sponsor several kids in a different part of the world, but I’m praying about this place just because of the fine work you and the other bloggers have done telling the story. What a gift. Thank you.

I really want to give through World Vision; but the salary I”m seeing for the CEO is off-putting to me.

I’ve been sponsoring a little girl in northern India since learning about WV at a Casting Crowns concert in February. My one reservation is that maybe I get more from our relationship than I should. My little Sakshi was born on the same day I delivered my daughter, who was born with her soul already in Jesus’ arms. So in a way, through my sponsorship I kind of get to watch my daughter grow up (does that make sense?).
$35 a month to us is the sacrifice on one restaurant meal for my family of 3. To her, it is a more abundant life, love from the other side of the world, and an example of the gifts that Jesus expects from all of us.

Now I’m off to write her an email. 🙂

I recently travelled to Cambodia on a medical mission that has transformed my life in so many ways, what I saw arround me was abject poverty!!! and yet the Praise, love and Worship I saw , sensed and felt for Our Lord and Saviour made me look at my own commitment of Christian values, I would encourage anyone to support, sponsor, go on mission! We in Western society have so much things become idols, cars, houses etc, each of us can do so much more for God’s Kingdom by helping one of his children in need, this article speaks to this also!

While at Women of Faith this weekend there was a World Vision presentation. Our family has sponsored a child before, so sponsorship was a natural thing for me to do. $35 a month, most women I spoke to said it was too much. It’s less then that cup of coffee at Dunkin Donuts. I know that sponsoring is not “for” everyone, but it made my heart heavy…

  • So glad that you are partnering, Our child protection laws mean that the child sponsorship model isn’t used, so it looks a little different. so as they continue to grow up together.
